On 4 February, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas meets with the new Ambassador of Greece Dimitrios Xenitellis.

“Lithuania and Greece have traditionally enjoyed friendly relations. Our countries are actively involved in various cooperation formats, especially on the EU and NATO levels. Greece has also remained one of the most popular destinations for Lithuanian holidaymakers for many years, although the full potential of cooperation is far from being exploited, especially in the areas of trade and investment,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister N. Germanas.

According to N. Germanas, Lithuania and Greece share similar views with respect to the challenges they face related to the next multiannual financial framework for 2021-2027. The two countries oppose to the devastating funding cuts to the traditional cohesion and agricultural policies, and support a balanced approach to this issue. The meeting also discussed international issues. N. Germanas and the new Ambassador agreed to further strengthen and develop the bilateral relationship between Lithuania and Greece in various areas.

On the same day, the Greek Ambassador presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda.

Lithuania and Greece re-established their diplomatic relations on 7 January 1992. D. Xenitellis is the eighth Greek Ambassador to Lithuania. He is also the sixth Ambassador of Greece, who resides in Lithuania.
