The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis commented on the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus to extradite Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Lithuania has been and will be a wall behind which all the democratic forces that are persecuted by regimes can seek refuge. Therefore, everyone who finds refuge in Lithuania can feel safe that they will not be extradited to regimes – neither for their struggle for democracy, nor freedom of expression and religious views. Thus, we can tell the Belarusian regime that we would rather watch hell freeze over than consider its demands."

On 26 February, marking the Day of Resistance to Occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. We strongly condemn the Russian military aggression against Ukraine that started seven years ago and still continues, and the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol in gross violation of international law.

We, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania  express serious concerns over the political situation developing in Georgia and urge all political forces to act with restraint, de-escalate the situation and seek constructive solution in the interest of Georgia and all its citizens. We stress the critical importance of the rule of law and political dialogue in order to resolve the current crisis.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania is concerned about the recent political situation in Georgia. Parliament's decision to waive the legal immunity of Nika Melia, the leader of the main opposition party, the United National Movement, and the possible arrest of the politician reduces the possibility of dialogue between the ruling party and the opposition, raising questions about selective justice and the rule of law in the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania strongly condemns mass detentions and the use of violence against peaceful protesters in the Russian Federation marching in protest against the lawlessness of the government and in support of the arrested leader of the opposition Alexei Navalny for the second weekend already.

The Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Mr Edgars Rinkevics, Lithuania, Mr Gabrielius Landsbergis and the Estonian deputy minister for European Affairs, Mr Märt Volmer, met in Paris on 26 January 2021 at the invitation of the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian. This first meeting this format was held on the centenary of the de jure recognition of Baltic States by France, while the four countries will celebrate this year the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between France and the Baltic States.

We congratulate the people of Georgia on having expressed their will in the parliamentary elections, which were conducted under the new electoral system, allowing a wider range of political forces to be represented in the new Parliament.

At the meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council on 17 September 2020, 17 participating States – Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the United Kingdom and the United States – invoked the OSCE Moscow Mechanism in relation to serious human rights violations in Belarus.
